A convicted felon with a long, violent criminal record — who should have been locked up for life under California’s three-strikes law — was walking free on bail. On December 29, 2022, during a routine traffic stop, 44-year-old William Shae McKay shot and killed 32-year-old Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Isaiah Cordero in cold blood.
McKay had a rap sheet stretching back decades: assault with a firearm, first-degree robbery, false imprisonment, criminal threats, and more. He was out on bail after failing to appear for sentencing on yet another serious charge. The system knew exactly who he was — and still let him roam the streets.
What followed was justice the hard way: a massive manhunt involving 100 officers, a high-speed pursuit on the 15 and 60 freeways, spike strips, a BearCat armored vehicle, a PIT maneuver, and a final shootout under a bridge where McKay opened fire on law enforcement. He was hit 12 times and died at the scene. 79 rounds were fired in total.
This is what happens when the justice system refuses to keep monsters off the street.
Ecclesiastes 8:11 (KJV) “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
When evil is not punished quickly, more evil follows. California’s soft-on-crime policies, lenient judges, and revolving-door bail system are directly responsible for the blood of good men like Deputy Isaiah Cordero. The same politicians who protect criminals and tie the hands of law enforcement continue to put American families and officers at risk every single day.
